A Coach for Making Choices

Hi there. Thanks for checking out a site to explore your personal climate choices. I’ve been wrestling with climate change and I’m betting we might have some questions in common, questions like -
     - how do I understand climate change?
     - what is my part?
     - what can I actually do about it?

Here on America’s Northwest coast, my interest in local endangered Orca whales led me to global climate change. It started when I learned of a 104 -year old Orca whale, Granny, who swam off my local beaches. Following her and her pod families led to me questions about seafood, what we’re putting in our oceans, and, eventually, how global warming affects our life-supporting oceans (think coral reefs, plankton die-offs, dead zones, and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch).

Complex and Confusing

Writing blogposts about all this (Whales, Art & Warming Oceans Archive), taught me how hard it is to sort through the media’s reporting of dramatic headlines and overwhelming statistics. Finally, I started using personal maps to sort the incoming information.

As I learned to carve out the layers of interest to me, I began to see when I could act alone and when with others, online or in real life. As of November 2019, I began to blog just for people who want to share how they jump in on climate change. Check it out at Personal Climate Choices Blog.

My Background

So, what are the letters after my name?

The Ph.D. is in psychology; my 30-years as a researcher and therapist has given me lots of experience in helping people zero in on their deepest values and how to move toward them. I’ve written about how people make personal decisions in steps (In and Out of the Military: How to Make Your Own Best Decision). The importance of emotion and creative imagination is central to my current work with artists as a personal coach. MPEC reflects my coach training (Master Psychology in Executive Coaching) and teaching experience (Creativity Coaching Association). I continue to coach artists one-to-one by phone and have a few openings for coaching individuals on their climate action choices.

If this internet sharing works for you, I pledge to keep us on target, civil (even kind), and tilted toward the hope that we all need to face this huge issue. Psychology and writing ocean blogposts do not make me an expert. I can’t say what your next best steps are but I will share what I’ve been learning (and unlearning) along the way.

Whether you’re a beginner or an old hand at finding your part in cooling down and cleaning up our world regular climate blogposts can keep you company. Sharing what’s working for you can remind you what to build on and be of great use to others.
